About the APPG
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Diversity & Inclusion in STEM is a cross-party group of over 30 MPs and Lords, chaired by Samantha Niblett MP, with the British Science Association as secretariat. It works to promote inclusion and progression in STEM for underrepresented groups and encourage government, parliamentarians, academics, businesses, and stakeholders to build a representative sector.
In late 2025, the APPG invited bold ideas for their 2026/2027 work programme. Out of a competitive pool of submissions, they selected Bamidele’s proposal to launch their flagship project: ‘Towards a Fairer AI Future in STEM’. The project investigates Artificial Intelligence (AI) equity in STEM – examining how AI tools in education, healthcare, hiring, and diagnostics can either reduce or worsen inequities. It begins with deep dives into gendered harms (e.g., biased algorithms and online abuse) before expanding further. The initiative will include regional listening roundtables, evidence gathering, co-creation sessions in Parliament, and public organisational pledges for practical safeguards like equity audits, diverse datasets, and inclusive design.
Reflecting of this selection, Bami said:
“When I first heard my submission had been selected by the APPG, I felt a profound sense of full-circle. The young girl once told she ‘didn’t have the head for science’ is now helping shape national policy on fairer AI in STEM. This isn’t just personal progress – it’s proof that diverse voices can influence systems to ensure technology serves everyone, especially those historically excluded.”

The Academy for Healthcare Science is pleased showcase Bami’s achievements. This selection is a powerful reflection of the values our community strives to uphold. Ensuring that emerging technologies work safely, fairly, and transparently for all is essential for the future of healthcare, and Bami’s voice will play a vital role in shaping that national conversation. We congratulate her on this accomplishment and are pleased to celebrate her contribution during Healthcare Science Week.
