The Academy for Healthcare Science Professional Bodies Council (the Council) is established as the senior council to provide a high level strategic discussion forum on healthcare policy, scientific leadership and horizon-scanning of issues that may affect the whole of the Healthcare Science workforce.

Welcome President-Elect

Following an election process, the Professional Bodies Council for the Academy for Healthcare Science are delighted to announce that the New President0Elect is Professor Chris Hopkins.
Chris, will be taking on this role in January 2025 and formally becoming President from the 1st of  July 2025.

Professor Hopkins has played a significant role in advancing scientific and engineering research. Chris has, over many years, contributed to the development of the healthcare science profession and this contribution was recognised through the NHS England’s Chief Scientific Officers Award for Excellence in Research and Innovation in 2022.

His contributions have been instrumental in promoting and enabling improvements in healthcare technologies and patient outcomes. Recently, Chris was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Research and Innovation Council (STERIC), a position that reinforces his commitment to fostering collaboration and driving forward the development of science and technology through strengthening partnerships across sectors. Chris currently also sits on several UK committees guiding the development of healthcare science as a profession.
