AHCS shares a thank you to outgoing chair, John Stevens

Thank you to our outgoing AHCS chair, John Stevens

We wanted to take a moment to celebrate John Stevens, a man who has been at the very heartbeat of the Academy for over a decade, serving as AHCS Chair since 2015. Whilst formally AHCS Chair, John is also a trusted mentor and source of guidance. As Chair, John has been instrumental in the development of the AHCS and in shaping the professional landscape of healthcare science. He has led the Academy with integrity and insight, advocating tirelessly for the visibility, regulation, and recognition of healthcare scientists across multiple disciplines. His efforts have enhanced collaboration across the four nations and ensured that professional standards keep pace with the ever-evolving healthcare challenges.

John’s legacy is one of science and service. Long before his time as Chair, and long before the Academy itself, he was a healthcare scientist driven by a clear sense of purpose. His journey did not begin in a boardroom, but with a deep-rooted passion for healthcare science and its power to improve lives. For decades, John formed part of the scientific backbone of the NHS, contributing to critical decisions that impact patients every day. He championed the profession itself. His commitment to professional standards never wavered, and he consistently ensured that the voice of the healthcare scientist was heard at the highest levels. Importantly, John never lost sight of where it all began. Through his dedicated work with local hospitals and Trusts, his engagement with universities, his voluntary work with schools, and his efforts to inspire the next generation, he demonstrated what it truly means to serve the community. He showed colleagues and future scientists alike that science is not just a subject or a career, but a calling.

We are immensely grateful for John’s leadership, integrity, and lasting contribution to the Academy and to healthcare science. His influence will continue to be felt for many years to come.
