House of Lords launches inquiry into AI and personalised medicine in the NHS

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee has launched a new inquiry examining how innovations such as artificial intelligence and personalised medicine can be more effectively adopted across the NHS.

Advances in genomics, AI and biotechnology are enabling highly targeted treatments, including gene therapies and CAR T-cell therapies, with the potential to transform patient care. However, despite the UK’s strengths in life sciences, integrating these innovations into routine NHS practice remains a significant challenge.

The inquiry will explore gaps between research, clinical trials and widespread NHS implementation, as well as barriers such as cost, regulation, infrastructure and system fragmentation. It will also consider how the UK can remain globally competitive and accelerate the deployment of new treatments to benefit patients.

The Committee is inviting evidence from stakeholders to help identify solutions and improve the translation of cutting-edge science into everyday healthcare delivery.
