Lord Mann Review Published on Tackling Racism and Antisemitism in the NHS

NHS England has published the Lord Mann Review, which examines racism and antisemitism within the NHS and sets out recommendations aimed at creating safer, more inclusive environments for patients, communities and staff. The review was published on 4 June 2026.

The review identifies a need for stronger action to address racism, discrimination and inequality across the health service, and makes recommendations for NHS England, NHS organisations, regulators and the Department of Health and Social Care. Key themes include improving leadership and accountability, strengthening staff support, enhancing training and development, and improving the consistency and use of data related to racism.

NHS England has accepted the recommendations made to it in full and announced a series of actions, including adopting the NHS Race and Health Observatory’s Seven Anti-Racism Principles, introducing staff standards on experiences of racism, strengthening accountability measures, and ensuring NHS boards receive anti-racism training.

The review also calls for NHS organisations to strengthen implementation of violence prevention measures, improve understanding of staff experiences of racism, and ensure training on equality, diversity, human rights, antisemitism and Islamophobia is completed across the workforce.

NHS England states that the review provides an opportunity to raise standards across the health service and reinforce the principle that discrimination, racism and antisemitism have no place in NHS care or workplaces.
