The Academy for Healthcare Science welcomes the extension of the NHS Fellowship in Clinical AI
Healthcare scientists across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can now apply if they are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or are on a professional register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This change recognises the valuable role healthcare scientists continue to play in ensuring AI is safe and effective for use in health systems across the UK.
Applications are now open for Cohort 6, which runs from August 2027 to August 2028. Fellows will gain practical experience in deploying and evaluating AI within clinical workflows, attend masterclasses at centres of AI excellence across the NHS, and join a national network of clinical AI leaders.
The programme requires a commitment of two days per week for 12 months, alongside existing work or training. Salary cover is provided for successful applicants appointed to funded competitive posts. Nominated places can also be arranged through institutional sponsorship or self-funding, subject to the programme’s requirements.
The Academy encourages eligible healthcare scientists to explore the opportunity and discuss participation with their employers.
