Modern Service Frameworks aim to support consistent standards of care across England
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has outlined how its guidance is supporting the development of Modern Service Frameworks (MSFs), which aim to make high-quality care more consistent across England.
MSFs bring together evidence, best practice and system-wide expertise to set out what good care looks like across a whole pathway or service. They form part of the delivery of the government’s 10 Year Health Plan for England.
Six priority areas have been identified:
- cardiovascular disease;
- sepsis; severe mental illness;
- frailty and dementia;
- end-of-life care; and
- children and young people.
Frameworks for cardiovascular disease and sepsis have already been published, with the remaining four in development at the time of NICE’s blog.
NICE’s role is to bring current evidence into service design, using its guidance and quality standards to inform the frameworks and identify areas where new or updated guidance, or further implementation work, may be needed.
