UK Government launches consultation on UK whistleblowing framework
The UK Government has launched a consultation on potential reforms to the whistleblowing framework, including proposals to strengthen arrangements for reporting wrongdoing and the protections available to those who raise concerns. The consultation is open until 8th January 2027.
Proposals include a possible statutory duty for employers to have effective whistleblowing procedures, extending protections to a wider range of individuals, reviewing the types of wrongdoing covered, and changes to the routes available for making protected disclosures. The consultation also considers measures to help individuals identify the appropriate organisation to report concerns to, as well as a proposed Serious Fraud Office financial incentive scheme for reporting economic crime.
